A Back-Up Substitute Lesson Plan for Sudden Absences
The Lesson Plan
Students will read the short story "The Lottery" by Shirley Jackson in the textbook on page 44, writing notes on their reactions and emotions throughout the piece. After the read, students should discuss the elements of the piece and how effective the written text was in drawing responses from them for the rest of class. The homework for tonight will be to come to this page, and watch the video's below of an audio reading for "The Lottery." Students will record their reactions to the audio reading as well, and form a two to three page paper on the question below:
Which reading was more effective in producing a reaction from you: the solitary read or listening to the recorded reader? What elements made this form of reading more effective, and how can students benefit from using this method as opposed to the other? RLS
